No, women don't belong in the stands. We belong on the sidelines as coaches, on the field as referees, and on the sidelines as reporters, analysts, social media coordinators, and whatever we want to be.
Jen Welter became one of the first female NFL coaches in 2015. This ignited a flame of opportunities for hundreds of badass women all across the world. Little girls that never knew this was a possibility now have dreams of being NFL coaches.
Katie Sowers is the first female coach to make Super Bowl history. The offensive assistant was able to help bring the team to the 2020 Super Bowl LIV against the Kansas City Chiefs.
In 2015, Sarah Thomas was hired as the NFL's first female full-time employee official. Most officials and referees are only part-time working from May through the end of the regular NFL season. Thomas is currently the only female official in the NFL, also making her one of the few full-time workers.
Some of the most well-known and highly favored NFL sideline reporters are female. Erin Andrews, Charissa Thompson, Colleen Wolfe, are just a few to name. These women work alongside men every single day, still continuing to dominate in what they do.
Working in sports as a woman can be one of the most challenging jobs to pursue. You have to have tougher skin than most, attitude to strive, and the mentality to make your dreams happen when you are doubted the most. These women are hated solely for being a woman in sports, but also loved by more for the fact that they are women, doing a better job than most men.
Women will continue to strive in the sports world and feed off of the negativity that pushes them to work even harder.
