Going into the fourth quarter, the Cavs were within five points of the Hawks, trying to secure a win. The Hawks made a quick turn around and stunned the Cavs with a 16-point lead. This gave the Cavs yet another loss: 100-82.
This 18-point loss doesn't sound as bad compared to the 34-point loss they were given on Friday against the New Orleans Pelicans, but it is still pretty bad for this young team. After this huge defeat, the Cavs were looking to break their losing streak that they're currently on but instead added a third day. This is their second straight loss following the All-Star weekend break.
Cleveland really switched up the game in the fourth quarter and not in a good way. I don't know what happened or what was said, but it seemed like Cleveland just gave up. They were only shooting 31.6% compared to the Hawks who were shooting 62.6% for the quarter.
Collin Sexton might have had his worst game of the season, only scoring 15-points and only being 5-17 from the field. Jarret Allen also really struggled only being 5-12 from the line. Darius Garland was clearly the Cavs best player on the court tonight. It was his first game back from his groin injury and came back with 11-points and seven rebounds. Kevin Love started the game but was out after only two minutes into the first quarter due to injury. Love appeared to have avoided injuring his calf again but will be reevaluated Monday morning.
These are not the type of games that Cavs fans want to be watching. This is a team that can be going great for a few games, and then really disappoint us instantly with multiple-game losing streaks. From injuries, to trades, the Cavs haven't been able to have a solid roster all season. Hopefully with players coming back from their injuries the Cavs will be able to bring it all together and get some more wins under their belt.
